A Blessed Life
This was my second family portrait for the Reddans, a few years on from the first. Having moved some distance for a sea change, this painting was to suit the style and atmosphere of their new home, and an excuse to bring the family portrait up to date with another addition.
The baby in the first painting was no longer a baby. Another sister had arrived since. The young boy was twice the size he had been. It is such a lovely thing to watch a family grow and to continue painting them.
Cheryl wanted the tropical flora and fauna of their new surroundings captured, so the whole scene is framed by it, including all the new birdlife that visits them daily, and then the beach beyond. Little Bailey is tucked in his basket, shielded from the sun. The big dog is fixated on the ball, as usual, and the grandchildren are having a great time.
The grandparents sit proudly in their deck chairs, hands together, raising a glass of champagne and toasting to their blessed life.
